The Silver Spurs Rodeo is celebrating a monumental milestone, its 80th anniversary, with a year-long celebration honoring its enduring legacy and deep-rooted tradition in Osceola County. Since the first chute opened on July 4th, 1944, the Silver Spurs Rodeo has become an iconic event, symbolizing the spirit of the American West and the close-knit fabric of its fans and founding members.
As the largest rodeo east of the Mississippi River, according to the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), the Silver Spurs Rodeo's history is intertwined with that of Osceola County, preserving the traditions of rodeo, ranching, and citrus production that define the region. Beyond entertainment, the Silver Spurs Riding Club has continually given back to the community, contributing nearly $100,000 to non-profits since 2020 alone.
Sara Berlinsky, President of the Silver Spurs Rodeo, reflects on the significance of this celebration, "As we mark 80 years of rodeo tradition, we are reminded of the passion and dedication that have been the hallmarks of our success. Our volunteers, fans, and the community have been the backbone of the Silver Spurs Rodeo, and this anniversary is a tribute to each and every one of them. We're dedicated to making this year's celebration a memorable experience for all, showcasing the best of rodeo while honoring our history and looking forward to our future."
The theme "Tradition Rides On" encapsulates the rodeo's commitment to preserving its heritage while continuing to evolve and entertain its fans. This theme will be reflected in the branding and marketing materials throughout 2024, featuring a vintage aesthetic with an oak wood texture overlay, a nod to the 80th-anniversary symbol.
With vintage and contemporary photos, the brand’s celebration incorporates the fans, founding members, animal athletes, contestants, and of course the community that has shaped the Silver Spurs Rodeo's storied history. The organization invites fans from all over the world to submit photos and memories of their stories at the rodeo for the last 80 years at www.SilverSpursRodeo.com/80years which could be featured online throughout 2024 if selected.
With various new ticket options, the Silver Spurs Riding Club Board of Directors has ensured that all fans can participate in the celebration, reflecting its long-standing commitment to family-friendly entertainment. The first event of the year kicks off February 10th at 10 am, the Silver Spurs Rodeo Parade, followed that night by Monster Bulls and four PRCA-sanctioned rodeo performances the following Thursday, February 15th through Sunday, February 18th.
During the 152nd Silver Spurs Rodeo performances, rodeo fans will watch contestants from all over the world (such as Brazil, Mexico, and Canada) compete in rodeo’s seven traditional events: bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronc riding, tie-down roping, women’s barrel racing, steer wrestling, and team roping for an entire year of bragging rights as our Champion and a total of $77,000 in cash which will be awarded to each event’s winner. Plus rodeo fans will be entertained by our rodeo clowns and the talented Silver Spurs Quadrille team, who perform a square dance on horseback, a tradition that truly rides on with generations of Silver Spurs Members since 1941 and recently showed the world their skills at the Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on January 1, 2024!
Performances can sell out, so the Silver Spurs Riding Club encourages fans to buy tickets in advance online at www.SilverSpursRodeo.com/tickets and arrive early to avoid any delays due to traffic or parking.
In conjunction with the rodeo events, fans will have the opportunity to enjoy the Osceola County Fair, included with their ticket purchase.
Donations to further support the Silver Spurs Riding Club’s community efforts are being accepted online. The proceeds will support people in need through various organizations in Osceola County providing scholarship assistance, cancer support, veteran needs, and more.
